Going from Ubud to Canggu means leaving the hills for the most built-up coast on the island. The road comes down from the hills of Ubud to the southwest, skirts Denpasar to the north and reaches the coast between Tanah Lot and Canggu. The last kilometers use the narrow streets of Canggu, packed with two-wheelers. The region pages: Ubud and Canggu.

The options to get from Ubud to Canggu
Ride-hailing works well between Ubud and Canggu, two areas with plenty of vehicles, provided you order it outside the streets where pick-ups are banned. A booked driver is more comfortable with luggage or children, and allows a stop on the way. A scooter is not recommended with a suitcase.

The transfer, step by step
The transfer starts by leaving Ubud, often slow on the main street, then comes down along village roads to the outskirts of Denpasar. The last part, approaching Canggu, is the most unpredictable: narrow streets, two-wheelers, roadworks.

With children, take a break halfway: the descent through the villages is easy, but the last part in Canggu’s streets is tiring when it is hot. Bring water, and plan a simple first meal on arrival rather than lunch on the way in a touristy area.
The pitfalls of the Ubud–Canggu transfer
The pitfalls: leaving in the late afternoon, ordering ride-hailing in a street where it is banned, adding Tanah Lot at sunset, and giving only “Canggu” as the address when the area spreads over several villages.

- Ordering ride-hailing in central Ubud: walk to an authorized area or order from the hotel.
- Adding Tanah Lot “on the way” at sunset: a major detour and a packed site, as the 10-day itinerary points out.
- Giving only the name of the neighborhood: share the exact location of your accommodation.
The smart alternative: a late-morning departure
The most effective is also the simplest: leave Ubud in the late morning, after check-out, to arrive in Canggu in the early afternoon, before the evening peak. If you want a visit on the way, take a driver for the day and choose a stop outside busy hours.

Leaving Canggu: to the airport
From Canggu, the airport is about 45 to 75 min away, depending on very variable traffic in the south. Add a wide margin and the check-in time set by your airline. For a very early flight, a last night in Kuta or Seminyak brings you closer to the airport.
